DISCOVER THE JEWS OF KAZAKHSTAN

The Jewish history of Kazakhstan is relatively short. Though Jews serving in the Russian army were sent to the area during the 17th century, a community was not established until later. Under Stalin, Jews were exiled from the Pale of Settlement to Kazakhstan and the community there numbered in the thousands. Today, the communities numbers between 2500-6500 and operates several synagogues and Jewish schools in a number of small communities throughout the country.
